The can be the quickest and most cost-effective method to pass your driving test. The intensive driving course lessons are longer than your standard hourly lessons, from 2hrs – 6hrs long. Plus instead of your lessons being spread over several months they are completed in a couple of days or weeks. In a 2 day intensive driving course you will have 10 hours of driving People with no driving experience can take longer intensive courses to make sure that you get enough tuition. The DSA recommends all driving students to take at minimum 40 hours of professional driving tuition, before they sit the driving exam. You could book weekly driving lessons. Driving an automatic car is not necessarily any easier, it depends on the issues you are having. It won’t make much of a difference to you if you have a common issue like observation. It is possible to learn to drive an automatic car if gear changes or clutch control are difficult for you. There is much less to consider when learning to drive in a city with lots of congestion. Because of the nature of urban driving, you will have to change gears often. This can be difficult for both experienced drivers and learner drivers. Taking your driving test in an automatic car is easier than driving in a manual car as you do not have the risk of stalling the car and any struggles you have with clutch control. In an automatic car you are able to handle difficult manoeuvres such as a turn in the road or a hill-start easier, which can be daunting for students who drive a manual car, as there are no gears or clutch control to worry about. If you have trouble managing the gears in a manual vehicle, you might find that learning to drive an automatic car is easier. This could mean you take fewer lessons to pass your test and receive your driving license.

Is There A Downside To Driving An Automatic Car?

As we have already mentioned, automatic cars are generally more expensive to buy, run and maintain. This is why automatic driving lessons are more expensive than manual driving lessons. A downside to learning to drive an automatic car is that your license does not qualify you to drive a manual car. If you pass your driving test in a manual car, your license will permit you to drive both. You may find that passing your test in an automatic car could limit your options for buying or renting a car in the future. You will have to take your driving test again if you decide to drive a manual car. In general, automatic cars have lower pass rates than manual cars. Don’t let it discourage you! Every year, thousands of learners pass driving tests in automatic car.

Are you looking for a new challenge or the opportunity to be your own boss. If so then becoming a New Town Driving Instructor could be what you’re looking for.

There is currently a huge backlog of people who want to learn how to drive. This makes it a great time to become a driving instructor. There is no need to have any prior driving instructor experience. The requirements include that you must be 21 or older, have had a driver’s license for at least three years, not had more than five penalty points in the last four years, and want to find a job that gives you the freedom to make your own decisions or earn more money and do something that you always wanted to.

Before you go to become a driving instructor, it would be a good idea for you to first review the official DVSA guidelines. Driving instructor training will usually take about 12 months. To fully complete your training, it will take you a minimum of 6 months, that’s if you get everything passed the first time, but that is highly unlikely.

You must pass three DVSA driving instructor tests to be approved by the DVSA. To ensure that instructors have the ability to teach others how to drive, the tests are rigorous. As with all adult learning courses, driving instructors must be dedicated and work hard to achieve their qualifications. If you have the right attitude to succeed as a driving instructor, there’s no reason why your test scores will not be passes.

Driving Lessons Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average number of hours to learn to drive?

You'll always have that one person who swears they passed first time after three lessons, but that's far from the average. According to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), it takes most people 45 hours of lessons to learn how to drive, plus 22 hours of practising.

What will the driving examiner ask me to highlight before I take my driving test?

They will examine your car to ensure it can safely drive on the road. They will then ask you to sound your horn, turn on your parking lights, headlights, turn signals and hazard lights, then press the brake to see if your brake lights work. Before you begin the test they will also check to make sure your seat belts are properly functioning.

How long will my driving test take me?

Your practical driving test will include a vision check and basic safety questions. The driving test will take around 40 to 50 minute.

Are intensive courses cheaper?

The overall cost of an intensive course is generally based on the full course rather than on an hourly rate, but this may differ depending on who you take your course with. Taking an intensive driving course could work out cheaper than spreading your lessons out over a long period of time.

Do intensive driving courses work for beginners?

The short answer is YES, but this depends on you and getting the right driving instructor who is an expert in doing them. They are not for everyone, but if you have limited time or a limited budget, it is by far the best way to learn to drive.

Can I learn to drive in a week?

One week driving courses are designed to do exactly as they say on the tin. You spend 4-6 days learning how to drive and round off the week with the practical test. Passing in such a short amount of time sounds great, but there's no magic formula here.

Is automatic easier than manual?

The most obvious benefit is that driving an automatic is considerably easier than driving a manual car. Driving can be less stressful, and it may be safer too. After all, if you don't have to worry about gear changes, you'll be able to focus entirely on the road ahead of you.

What is the difference between crash course and intensive course?

A crash course is fast and covers the essentials. Intensive learning involves depth and detail and involves more effort and focus over this short period of time you've set apart.

Are automatic cars better for nervous drivers?

Automatics are often a good choice for learners who need to pass their test sooner. Nervous drivers will also be able to build up their confidence more quickly if they don't have to worry about the clutch.

Do you have to do a theory test for automatic?

You usually need to take the theory test before you can get your full car driving licence. You do not need to take the car theory test if you: want to upgrade an automatic car licence to a manual one.

What happens in an automatic driving test?

The automatic driving test is a simplified version of the full driving test — because learners don't need to learn how to master a clutch or manual gears leaving them to concentrate on accelerating, steering, braking, manoeuvres and identifying possible hazards.

Can I become a driving instructor with 6 points on my licence?

Have held a driving licence for at least 3 years. Be able to read a licence plate at 90 feet (27.5m) – glasses or contacts are OK. Have no more than 6 points on your licence. Allow the Government (DVSA) to complete Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
